LONDON Stansted Airport has posted a 4.5 per cent year-on-year increase in July cargo volume to 22,000 tonnes, bringing the 12-month rolling total to 262,000 tonnes.
Some 2.7 million passengers came through the airport in July a 7.4 per cent year-on-year increase as the summer holiday season got underway. This despite an airline strike and weather disruption as well as air traffic challenges across Europe.
The destination countries recording the largest growth in terms of passengers flown were Spain, France and Germany.
"Over the next five years we are investing GBP600 million (US$763 million) in transforming the airport, the main elements of which will be the construction of a new arrivals terminal, a re-vamp of the existing terminal, upgrades to the baggage system and more car parking spaces," said airport CEO Ken O'Toole.
